The Parish Council is looking to co-opt two new parish councillors, so if you would like to be involved in shaping the future of your local community, why not apply for one of the vacancies?

To qualify to become a Parish Councillor you must be a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen, or a citizen of any member state of the EU, and be over 18 yrs old.

In addition you must meet at least one of the following:

  1. be listed on the current electoral role
  2. have lived in the Parish of Rainton with Newby or within three miles of its boundary for the whole of the past twelve months
  3. occupied as owner/tenant any land/premises therein during the whole of the past twelve months
  4. or have had a principal place of work within the Parish for the whole of the past twelve months.

You must not be disqualified from holding office as a Councillor.
